March 23, 2006 - New York, New York- Agustin 'Gus' Garcia was elected to chair the Solidaridad Inspiración Amistad Community Foundation this past weekend by its Board of Trustees (BOT). Garcia is an international civil/human rights leader, CEO of GARCORP International, Founding Father of Lambda Theta Phi National Latin Fraternity and also currently chair's the Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity Foundation, Inc.
"This foundation [is] based on equality, paternity and respect for culture and individual roots and backgrounds," said Garcia, " [w]ith this appointment it is an opportunity to help those not only less fortunate economically but also to fight for political equality"
Elections also included the confirmation of Jessica A. Mayorga as the Foundation Chief Executor and Michelle E. Sazo as the Foundation Chief Financial Officer. Mayorga and Sazo will be leaving their respective positions on the Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, Inc. (SIA) national executive board to take on the Foundation as their sole responsibility. They have both been acting in their respective positions on the BOT since it was officially put in place by SIA this past September.
“We are excited to concentrate our efforts solely on the Foundation,” said Mayorga, “we are especially fortunate to have Gus as chair, he has really been a driving force for us and his experience is invaluable to help the Foundation grow.”
Also elected was the Foundation Board Vice Chair, Lucria Ortiz, Esq., an accomplished Bronx attorney, and Sorority Chief Executive Officer Ivone De Jesus, member of SIA and currently Vice President of Community Affairs for the sorority.
